Ombre...Nails!

To continue this week's theme of the ombre style, here is a gorgeous set of manis that are so easy to do at home! Either fading down the nail or across your hand, this look is gorgeous. I tried this yesterday and it turned out way cool, similar to this first one. Enjoy!

Ombre...Hair!

Last weekend before school starts! Wow, Summer went by fast. This hairstyle is a constant reminder of the hair-lightening power that the sun brings us and I'm so in love. I was a skeptic at first, especially with straight hair, but it has totally grown on me. I think this will be my next hair adventure!

Pallet Fever

New obsession: The Rachel Zoe Project. I get to witness this neurotic, pregnant, stylist turned designer try to manage her stylish and fabulous life. She might be a little cranky and feisty most of the time, but it also a major joy to witness the process that it takes to put a great outfit together especially during awards season.

Switching gears from fashion to being crafty and eco-friendly, I'm also in love with repurposed home furniture! They're building new classrooms next door and have pallets laying everywhere which  totally inspired this montage of refurbished wood. Check out these pallets turned headboards/coffee tables/shelves and so much more.

Red Hot Emmys

I think they all must have called each other before they decided on their dresses last night...either way, crimson was definitely in on the red carpet tonight.

My favorite has to be Nina Dobrev in her red hot Donna Karan strapless work of art. The texture is gorgeous and lets the simple cut speak for itself. The gathering at the bottom is perfect for this formal event without being too over the top.

Lea Michele knows how to work it. She looks gorgeous in this stunning Marchesa dress and even after being mocked by Modern Family  actress Sarah Hyland on Fashion Police, she holds her head high.

Friday Night Lights  walked away with a win! They received best writer and best actor went to hottie dad/coach, Kyle Chandler. Connie Britton looks like the hottest coach's wife ever in this rust colored wonder.

One-Shoulder Fake-Out
Love love LOVE this style of dress. It could pass as a strapless dress but a simple draping of fabric turns it into a one-shoulder wonder. Modern Family  wins my heart with Sarah and Sofia's (all too similar) gowns.

Loving Maxis

I still love maxis! Summer's almost over and this trend is about to fade with it. Here's one last hoorah to the dress that took over fashion magazines for the past 6 months. I can see this dress making a transition into fall wardrobes with the right color, texture, and accessories. My goal has been to find more of these to add to my closet as a go-to look; so far Forever21 and H&M have had some finds. (Jump to the bottom to find Shelby's latest discovery!)

Check out this first dress modeled by the beautiful SPU soccer player, Brittany! I love this dress and even though maxis don't need to fit as precisely as other styles of dresses, this is just the right length for this Cali hottie.

Last but not least, Shelby's getting this dress for a winter wedding! I love how the color takes this Summer style into the next season.

Starbucks, at Home!

Good morning and happy game day! We're headed over to Central Washington tonight to play them in our first GNAC match of the season then it's off to Nampa tomorrow (40 minutes from Boise). It's going to be nice to get into a good traveling and playing routine. Denver and Hawaii were AMAZING but I can't wait to see some familiar cities.

This morning I woke up to some way too loud construction next door! They've been building a new classroom building for the past few months and I think these final touches they're putting on it might just be the noisiest ones. After I finally realized I wasn't going to be getting anymore sleep, I got out of bed to make my Starbucks drink. Yes, I MADE my coffee this morning! Not just brewed coffee with cream, but a white chocolate cinnamon dolce iced coffee with soy. My (awesome, beautiful, wonderful) friends got me a french press, a pound of iced coffee beans, and a bottle of Starbucks cinnamon dolce syrup for my birthday. I finally broke them out once I moved into my apartment and decided to but them to work.

How to Make Emily's Iced Coffee (AKA "The Cinnamon Roll") at Home:

You will need:

1. Grind the beans. Once you buy your beans, Starbucks will grind them for you depending on the type of machine you'll be using. A french press will be a different grind than a traditional drip coffee brewer.

2. Brew that coffee! For the iced coffee blend, the instructions state to brew the right amount of coffee with half the amount of water. The other half of the water will come into play when it comes time to add ice and cold water. For a french press, I added enough coffee to make 8 cups but only 4 cups of boiling water. Stir, sit for 5 minutes, and press! Pour into a pitcher with 4 cups of ice cold water and refrigerate.

3. Make it yummy. Pour 1.5 tablespoons of both cinnamon dolce and white chocolate syrup  into 16 oz. glass. Add 1.5 cups of ice cold coffee. Top with about a half-inch of vanilla soy milk and finish off with ice up to the brim.

4. Mix, enjoy, repeat. It's that simple! Maybe simple isn't the best word, but making a drink at home that I would normally have to go to the top of Queen Anne to buy is a pretty proud moment for me.

Do you have your own at-home coffee recipe? Let me know! I'd love to mix it up sometimes! Have a wonderful, cloudy Seattle day :)
